What training did you do today?

I know all this training business makes us sound a bit serious but, well, some people really are into this bike lark so feel free to talk about all training & self improvement related topics in here

A 50mile social ride with some ex-ACCers, which turns into the usual tearup on the Merstram drag. Gets brutal for me from Newdigate onwards.

No DK on CG anymore then? Or is it just a bit of off-season fun?

I think for Dave the CG is just a bit of fun. What you may find fast, Special K just considers to be tempo. I don't think I've ever seen him break sweat.

I recall one time at the end of hilly Ashdown ride with George and Dave on board, we wound it up for about 30mins on a fast B road on the way home. I thought I would attack at the end of the B road section. I was working away doing my turn, then Dave comes through and I think, right I'll rest a bit here then go for it. Dave calmly powered past me and with no visible extra effort lifted the speed to about 35mph and he nearly dropped me  I pushed hard with my HR up to 180+ just sitting on his wheel!! Needless to say I ditched the idea of attacking and just left him to carry on calmly towing us along without a care in the world!

Dave AKA the motoribke for good reason!

Too strong for words that Boy! Just think what he'd be like if he attacked a lot more in Road Races

Did some sprint training last night, pushing hard down Wood Pigeon, a very pedaly, tight, rooty, singletrack trail. I did it three times, and at around 4 minutes 30 a run, I was feeling the lactic!

I ventured into the gym today for the first time in many months. Just a little prep work prior to some building in some winter strength training.

Two hours at a cold & windy Regents Park. Mostly a steady paced afair except for a moderately intensive 2 x 20min effort in the Rgents Park inner loop. A few hairy moments, dodging Zoo visitors. I managed to get a good look at one of the young giraffes on the first few laps :D 8)

I went for a lunchtime run, god knows I had to drag myself outside in the cold but at least there was a respite in the rainfall. Really glad I did now, you feel so good afterwards.
Wasn't planning on going mega fast but after looking at my watch at the 4km mark, halfway, after a 1km straight with a super tailwind, realised I was well under 15", so made it my goal for the day to do 8km in 30". Kept checking splits every km which I had to do in 3"45, second part of the course is a bit slower, plus there was the headwind now, it was dead close in the end, got there in 29"59 and a bit :!: Which is my second fastest time ever on that run : ).
Thoroughly enjoyed my lunch after that.

Did a 3½ mile hilly run last night in 23mins straight after my commute. Got off the bike locked it up, changed shoes and went for it.
Went out too hard and kept it going for as long as I could then last 400 metres slowed up. I thought I was gonna chuck up when I finished. Thankfully the feeling passed quickly.

My watch didn't pick up a satelite signal but it was a real sack whack

oh, I also went for a run yesterday. This time round I am building up slowly, so this week was:

6min run, 1.5min walk, 6min run, 1.5min walk, 6min run,1.5min walk, 6min run. total run time 24min.

Next week I move onto 9min runs with 1.5 min walks for a total run time of 36min.

Thats an excellent idea. I might try this with the crosstrainer in the gym.

Sean, I started off at a fairly low level,

1min run, 1min walk x 7 three times a week
2min run, 1 min walk x 6
3min run, 2 min walk x 5
5min run, 2 min walk x 4

I am roughly following a plan I found in runner's world, building up to a 30min run. Whilst I have the CV fitness to do a 30min run I need to let my body adjust to running. I have repeated some weeks if I felt my body needed more time to adapt. Previous attempts were too ambitious and ended in minor injuries. My final 'goal' with be a 40min 10k sometime next year provided no minor injuries.

Kieran, you should have no problem with a 40 min 10k.

This annoying niggly post-ride ankle pain has been with me for just over a month now and for the first time last Sunday it was present throughout the ride which is clearly a sign that things are getting worse. Because of this, alongside replacing cleats and having my position checked and re-cehecked, I've decided to take 7-10 days off the bike to see if that will get rid of the pain...Grr! just as I was starting to get back into the training grove again. Oh well, no biggy its still the off season and I've potentially got a bit more training time available, right Sean? Anyways this morning I banged out 60 sit ups and 60 press ups and I'm f'd  :D
