Box Hill - what's an achieveable benchmark time?

I know all this training business makes us sound a bit serious but, well, some people really are into this bike lark so feel free to talk about all training & self improvement related topics in here

[quote="Sylv"]Didn't you time yourself on the off-road course once Nick?

A parallel road vs off-road race would be good fun.

I think it's about 1.3km off-road, so assuming 13km/h do it in 6 min it could be a pretty close one.

I think I suggested this a while back in one of those pub conversations. Sylv vs George (or anyone willing to give it a go) - MTB vs Road. Although a cross bike might be quicker up the bridleway.

BTW: Tom has taken 1'10" off his zig-zag road time and is now down to 13'01".

[quote="Lucyap"]Does anyone know what the gradient of White Hill, the climb from Bletchingley to Caterham?

Lucy.

Yes. Bloody steep! I sometimes go that way to get to the CR. 17% at a guess?

Checking my O/S map, it merits a double chevron - so over 20% then.

I will have a crack at this soon, just getting a bit of top end power together so I stand a chance of making it to the top. Might try and time the attempt for when the guys and girls arrive at Box on the return leg of the CR. Give something to chase 8) .

A week after the Club Sportive I will be staging the 'Waller Pain Urban Hill Climb' for the second year. So put 12th June in your diary. Its a great little event open to all...Club/Non Club Riders, Fat Dads, Fit Mums and Kids.

Last years Cycling Weekly reports here:
