I know all this training business makes us sound a bit serious but, well, some people really are into this bike lark so feel free to talk about all training & self improvement related topics in here

Hi,

Having had an up/down season so far, I'm now looking for a long-term training buddie/mentor who would like to focus on next years Etape and to help me start racing.
I don't lack self-motivation, but think my energies aren't focused correctly. Hopefully won't be all too serious, occasional beer is obligatory!
Moving to Putney area might make things difficult for weekday meets.
Any takers/help?

At the moment I try to get out on Tuesday evenings from CSS about 6.30pm to 7pm. If its raining then forget it. There are a few of us who go and we go at a reasonable (average 18/19mph) rate, normally hard up the hills and then wait if someone is struggling.

If you fancy it then PM me your mobile number so that I can call you to let you know if change of plan etc etc.

In the winter will probably be doing long rides from CSS starting at 8am and finishing about 12 or 1ish, but lets worry about the winter when it arrives.

If you want to get into racing then get along to the Thursday night handicap races. You cannot beat racing as training for racing, if you get my drift. These races are brilliant for beginners as you get a good feel of what it is like to ride fast in a group.

If you want a chat about getting a racing licence etc and how it all work then send me your number and I will give you a run through.

Cheers

Marek....

p.s. Don't worry I drink plenty of beer.

Hey Simon if you're moving to the Putney area you should be rejoicing. It means your very close to Richmond Park which for 'training' is almost perfect terrain. You've mentioned the etape, what other goals do you have in mind?. I'can't commit fully to being a regular trainig partner but I can definitely join up with you 2/3 times a month

Hey Toks,

You should have raced in the 3 stager this weekend. Perfect terrain for a mountain goat like you. I got dropped on both road stages, pretty poor at the moment, need to up my game.

Cheers

James entered the race a long time ago and hence was allowed to ride. He is pretty good, he won the green jersey. I won't hold it against him, he has a Polish girlfriend so he is alright in my book.

Cheers

Simon,

I would be up for training for next years etape (you) / marmotte (me) over the winter.

I live in East Croydon and will be here baring sackings till next year.....

I am going to try and ride 4 times a week from next week. This tuesday thing with Marke sounds interesting and good training.

I think it would be cool to try and give people in the club the opportunity to train in the week as I am sure there are people on the club runs who could fit in a week night ride.

Cheers

Unfortunately I don't think I will be back from my meeting tonight in time for the 6.30 run. But don't let that stop you guys from going out.

Cheers

I try to ride at least 4 times a week-unless its raining, then i will probably mtb. Could not be @rsed to ride over to richmond tho when there is so much good riding near me, i can be out on the road by 5 most days.

You're right,

RP is a good place for training, spent most of my time there before joining ACC. Only problem is it gets a bit boring to be honest, although there are alot of markers to chase (and drop).
Its a pain to get to CSS and have a decent ride before it gets dark, but will try and make the effort.

It would be good to get any agreeables together for a midweeker? Toks?
4/5 flying laps is a nice workout (~30miles) for after work.

Yeah unfortunately, I tried that one Simon!!Despite numerous attempts nobody seemed that bothered in doing regular training at R.P. In most cases people probably live too far away. Its a shame really coz there's quite a few strong riders in ACC. There's people like Tim (sat's sprint winner),Pete ( young ass kicker) and Robbie (amazing progress) and a few others who now ride competantly in the 19mph group and in Peter and Tim's case even sit on the front of the 21/22mph group... As I've said before if you can ride in those groups you're definitely fit enough to race as a fourth cat...I'm self employed so I sometimes I train early morning or in the evening depending what suits. But you're right 3/4 hard laps (55mins-80mins) once or twice a week around Richmond park is great training for all types of riding: cyclosportives, TT, and RR

I would certainly be up for regular weeknight training.

I just can't get to Richmond Park in time from Croydon.

I will be cruising this weekend in the 17s but next week I will try the 19s again depending how sunday goes.......

I might retire if I can't keep up for at least one lap.

Cheers

Hi Simon

Usually make Wednesday eves around the Park. Also if I cannot commit to club run on Sat, I`ll be in the Park for 3 or 4 circuits.
Any way if you fancy some company with an old git let me know.
