An Hour Of Power Session@Richmond Park

I know all this training business makes us sound a bit serious but, well, some people really are into this bike lark so feel free to talk about all training & self improvement related topics in here

Sean,

Are you up for some hill training around crystal palace once a week like last year?

Cheers

[quote] Sounds good.
Sean are you ok? Hill training never sounds good... Gavin I look forward to seeing those intermediate goals. After an impressive racing debut at Goodwood; I hope all 'training' roads don't just lead to and end at the marmotte. :)

Toks, The Marmotte rules my life and defines my existence on this planet......

but since you make a fine point I will think about doing some races in May, June time.

I got 26 weeks of 60 mile fixed gear commuting to look forward too before I can take on the Marmotte. Plus a trip to Majorca which should be Top Banana.

Cheers

G

P.s Sean, Hill Training starts next week on my fixed gear bike. No gypsy hill though. name you day..........

Training in Richmond park?

Postby Kevin Rynne » Thu Jan 12, 2006 12:11 pm

Would anyone be up for three laps of the Park on Tuesdays? meeting at 5.30ish at Roehampton gate? Two of my work mates meet there for a few brisk laps at this time. Post a reply if interested.
ps you would need a decent set of lights as its quiet dark there at that time!

mmm I know quite a few cyclists ride around RP at night; I just thinks its a little bit risky. Let me know how it goes Kevin, I might just be tempted

I ride round RP sometimes and the biggest danger I've noticed is the b*st*rds using super-bright halogen lights. The ambient light is usually fine once your eyes adjust and I only take a small LED light so that others can see me coming. Then I find myself blinded by some git coming the other way with a massive halogen light. It's particularly scary on the descent with the big corner and if it happens at that point again it may stop me going to the park.

The other hazard is the w*nkers who choose to run in dark clothing with no lights and their backs to the on-coming traffic. So far I have spotted them in time although I do tend to ride v close to them and pretend not to have seen them.

It's also quite stressful being on your own in such complete darkness and I always feel relieved to complete my work and get back on the roads...even if I am then competing with the traffic.

But that said it's good, traffic-free miles where you can actually ride without constant stopping/starting at junctions/zebra crossings etc.

That's because I'm the grumpy cow growling at all the other riders and runners. :-)
