Long term results - LBP training

I know all this training business makes us sound a bit serious but, well, some people really are into this bike lark so feel free to talk about all training & self improvement related topics in here

I've started putting BCAA into my bottle for 4 hour rides and was telling Keith this last Saturday as we got dropped because we were rdiing LBP-20...

Great brain food and noticing not falling asleep after finishing training.

I am a bit confused

I was talking about Stu getting ill. He tends to do long rides and races, and run out of fuel.

But why is he running out of fuel...What sort of workout is he intending to do on his long training rides? STF or FFA?

Is there a physiological change is what Juerg is highlighting.

my rides have (over the last year), been hard intensity, definitely not fat burning pace, and that was 4-5 times a week- (including races).

ive just taken 2 weeks off and been back into training, im a week and a half in, and have been doing one intense ride a week (training group, though i missed it this weekend), and then 4 long 3-4 hour rides, but not too intense, and im feeling fresh as a daisy!

If your only burning Fat, I guess your not using any energy drink just water. Everybody has enough fat supplies to last for weeks.

If you only burning fat .....
Would be nice, but there is no such thing like only burning fat,at least not in the human body. There is alwaysamixture of fat /glucoseand even some protein, and in some genetic problmes fatand protein. We as well have alwasy a certain lactateproduction, and if we are gettinglow on glucose in one section of the body we can even get glucogen moved from your arms (thanks to the lacta6te shuttle into your legs.
The easy and simple idea of fat burning or sugar burning is nice in theory, but not as easy in ral energy production situations.
\ This is as well one of the weak parts in the FaCT idea or info, as we have as well zones, but we try to sell this more as mainly STF involvment zone and mainly FTFa involvment zone and so on.
So BCAA has therefor a very special reason in the intake duirng certain workouts. Whether it works is still in discussions with as usual 2 extreme ideas.

I agree, but some people on this forum are under the mistaken impression that training at LBP-20 is mainly burning fat.

my understanding is that it doesn't matter what intensity of riding you do you should be eating (not necessarily a lot) at least once every hour you're out on your bike.

True to a degree Dan but as you become more experience with lots of lots of rides your glycogen storage improves and you can ride more with less carbs. I was always facinated how peeps like Huw can do six hour rides on eating literally nothing. When I first started riding seriously I once bonked on a moderately intense hour ride around regents park.
