Women's Coaching at Hillingdon

I know all this training business makes us sound a bit serious but, well, some people really are into this bike lark so feel free to talk about all training & self improvement related topics in here

John is a top bloke and a mine of useful information should any of the club ladies be considering racing next season.

Training and coaching sessions at Hillingdon cycle circuit for women riders:

* who currently race (all categories of licence)

* who plan to race next year (and know they now need to train well)

* who planned to race this summer just gone (but somehow missed out

making a start)

* who compete in triathlons (and want to improve their cycling skills)

* juniors

and

* youth (U16 and U14)

session 1 - Sunday 23 November 2008

session 2 - Sunday 7 December 2008

Hillingdon is a car-free circuit, so there is no problem with on-coming traffic. It is tarmaced and is about 0.9 of a mile round.

The Hillingdon circuit loop includes a straight (often into a headwind), a mild drag (that goes on) and a short fast descent followed by a tight corner (one that you can pedal round and get an advantage over riders who lack the nerve to push forward and who opt to freewheel instead).

This is continuation of the seven sessions run over the past two winters by Surrey Cycle Racing League/Power Pack.

They all had a common purpose of looking to get you fit and ready for racing with a combination of group riding and exercises containing elements of "flat out" effort.

For the first event..the three hours will be a combination of:

warm-up

laps with sprints (so comparable to a points race)

three-lap race

through-and- off groups

30-min break

skills

two short races, each with different format

through-and- off

timetable: assemble at 11.00am onwards

on the track 11.30am

break 1pm - 1.30pm

finish 3pm

So hopefully out there for a total of 3 hours, though possibly trimmed back in the case of particularly bad weather.

There is a mid-session break, so please bring your own packed lunch.

If you've not been to Hillingdon for a while, then the news is that the adjoining site has been developed by Goals, the operator who runs five-a-side football on mini-pitches all wrapped up within high netting fences.

Cyclists can share in the Goals facilities which include changing rooms, toilets, showers and drinks.including strong alcohol (should you wish to go on a blinder).

The floors are slippery. You are advised to remove cycling shoes.

Bookings made in advance:

Price: £10 each session (or £18 for both) Places: 30

Bookings on the day:

Price: £20

Please note:

Because of the number of people who have already paid and had a place confirmed (particularly for the first session) I have already booked a second coach, Debbie Knott.

I'm hoping that interest remains sufficiently high for the balance of placed to be taken in advance, which would result in the sessions becoming full.

Please don't expect to turn up and find a place available..safer to make a call beforehand for a last minute up-date.

Excellent news. I hope you two really enjoy yourselves. John is great. Don't forget to shout though :D He's a bit hard of hearing.

Unfortunately the in-laws are decending so I won't be with you.

Wrap up warm it is going to feel like -7. There can be a howling wind all along the back straight.

Great news Chloe and Bridget. Please can you post a report of how you found it as it would be good to hear how it went, and also encourage a few more of the ladies to join you at the races.
