Box Hill on the Big Ring

I know all this training business makes us sound a bit serious but, well, some people really are into this bike lark so feel free to talk about all training & self improvement related topics in here

well, the nearest I did to that was 8 loops of the sydenham/dulwich circuit, so up college road/fountain drive hill 8 times on my track bike, which is still geared for Herne Hill track. As I didn't want to get my road bike dirty.

And have been doing ascents of it on my MTB out of the saddle in high gear. Why, just because I once read about a female MTB racer who lost her saddle about halfway during a race but continued on and came well placed. At the time I couldn't ride far out of the saddle so decided to see how far I could and to improve it, so now I can do my whole commute that way, so if I ever loose my saddle I should still be able to continue at a fair pace. :D :D

Scientific or what?

indeed, actually as my job is as a biostatistician I get my fill of science and numbers from work. The bike to to take me away from work not to extend it!

I ran it 4 times a few weeks ago as hill reps ( running* that’s a thing you do with out a bike, much like walking).. if your limited for time, running is a saving grace for getting the body working.

But.. I really think they need to declassify box hill ...

National Trust - Box ‘Gradual Incline’ – or Box ‘mildly up hill’..

Next time Adam I want to see you doing with caring a sheep for extra weight , there are plenty to hand on the Box*

Did you go up it the off-road way - now that is steep. George found an even steeper way which basically cuts through the second road hairpin through the field. About 35% maybe ...

[quote]This is just a quick reminder that the Knacker Cracker (Mickleham, Dorking, Surrey) is coming up on 1 January, from 11am onwards.

The Knacker Cracker is said to be the UK's toughest 10k, including over 1500feet of ascent and descent, and is now often run in fancy dress.

Runners who register before 15 December will get their names on the race shirt, a fluorescent long-sleeved technical top which alone is worth the race fee. Runners also get the race medal, mug, soup and rolls and the race carrot. All profits from the race go to charity.

There is a free run-through of the course at 11am on Sunday 14 December - all welcome.

Only a limited number of places are still available in the Knacker Cracker on 1 January. Please register online at
http://www.trionium.com/knackercracker

Kind regards,

Rob

 Now I'm not a runner but that's not a name to get me started either  . Is it run by the same people as The Ballbuster? I'm spotting a theme.

No idea what I'm doing but if I'm about I might ride over to watch as it could be entertaining watching people suffer like dogs.
