What's wrong with this photo

I know all this training business makes us sound a bit serious but, well, some people really are into this bike lark so feel free to talk about all training & self improvement related topics in here

But weirdly holding just 200w seems harder than on the turbo or the road- do you find this too?

Longtime since I have done rollers, but holding 200w may be harder due to lack of air cooling, greater concentration required to not come off the rollers and time dragging compared to on the road. Is your heart rate different?

Slyv,

Juerg did some EMG studies to find out why all of the cyclists he had in his Quesnel camp many years ago where better wattage performers outside than indoors. He found the amount of intermuscular coordination was far better on the road than indoors which lead to a much more effcient pedal stroke for many of them and showed up as a higher wattage output.

These peopel in the camp spent 90% of their time training outdoors.

Cheers, I should have said really "compared to on the road, or on the turbo". I kind of know what 200w feels like on the turbo now, but from the short 1/2h trial I did on the rollers (without HRM), it just seemed harder.

That said, that was straight after a hard running session, and the previous day my cycling legs were rubbish.

Don't forget that unless you are really used to the rollers, you will actually waste quite a lot of energy (and therefore watts) because you are skittering around a bit and unable to hold your line.

Sylv, your 'rubbish' legs won't have helped, but the above would also add to the problem.

Is your floor level, maybe you are riding uphill?

Cheers

[quote="Michelle"]because you are skittering.

My dear ole departed Gran used to refer to a dose of the squits as skitters :shock:

Are there any differences in rollers or are they all much of a muchness? Any recommendations?
