Training Group Race Recce

I know all this training business makes us sound a bit serious but, well, some people really are into this bike lark so feel free to talk about all training & self improvement related topics in here

Training Group Race Recce

Postby Keith » Sun Jan 25, 2009 6:41 pm

Been thinking.

In the near future I reckon we in the Training Group should head off and ride some of the local road race circuits. I believe that knowing the course in advance of a race is well worth doing.

For a start we can easily do a couple of laps of either the Newdigate or the South Nutfield courses before heading to the cafe. Should even make the front of the cake queue. There's plenty of other circuits not too far away that may involve drinking from a different mug.

I suggest we check the forecast midweek, say on a wednesday, and if it looks fine, state where we're going.

Whaddayathink?

P.S. I'm not around next CR, 31st Jan.

Just a thought, but when you do this, it's probably best to do as an organised group rather than standard TG protocol. As that way, you can discuss with each other the key areas of the course.

At least for the first lap anyway, then feel free to rip each others legs off...

Agreed, that's always a good idea. Count me in for sure. Perhaps depending on numbers we could split up into teams following the first recce lap and race a couple of laps to make a slightly more realistic ride rather than just all charging round together?

Good idea keith, especially for the hilly Bletchingly course, ACC Road Race promotion, on 4th of April.

When I was a novice racer.....I used to like to recce the courses too. However, I generally found it easier and faster to do so by car. :?

I'm sure the Bletchingley course would be a nice drive....

Andy E, we can certainly sort out what you are suggesting. As we are probably all at slightly different fitness levels at the moment we can split up into Handicap type race, with the faster guys chasing down the others. At the moment I think we should all get going now as I reckon we will have trouble keeping away from Paul H who seems uber strong at the moment.

Crowhurst is a early season race and is not too far away so we could do that one, maybe a few laps, and then we can cycle back to Merstham via Snow Hill Garden centre which has a cafe inside. Or other possibility is take the Westerham route back which gets us in a couple more hills and can stop at the Westerham Cafe.

Cheers

Marek.....

Unfortunately I dont think I am and think you are looking from a different perspective. Keith is the strongest rider on the TG at the moment.

Dont mind having a look at some courses but I think I know them already. It looks like I will be doing more RR than I thought as I cant ged rid of this running injury.

I've got the SCCU 21 on the Bletchingley course on 15th March so if you head over to that course before then, and I'm free, then I'll try and hang on to your coat tails for as long as poss.

You need to knock all that pavement pounding, joint jolting stuff on the head dude. You were just getting good at RR and you switched. Stick with it - there's no injuries :D

Actually looking at the calendar of the early season sporting's I've entered then I could do either 14th or 15th Feb for Bletchingley instead of doing the CTC Hilly 50 or the Sydnham Wheelers Reliabilty, or Saturday 21st Feb as it's only an 18 the following day and being first TT I don't expect anything other than pain. I've got a Sporting every Sunday after that so wouldn't want to go too hard on the Saturday before. I'll have to give it a miss if these dates don't fall in to your plans.
