Alex now the CX season is coming to a close only one more London League round to go this Sunday although there is a club team CX soon.
This season you've missed the boat but fear not it will be departing in early September again.
Really the only way to get into it is to jump straight in head first in the races themeless, theres no pressure and you could ride them at whatever pace you fancy, plus you'd end up getting much fitter and stronger by riding with and trying to compete with all the other guys.
For off road rides at a slightly less competitive rate I'd go for the off road club runs on Saturday which Aoden often leads out from Coulsdon South Station.
If your a newbie to CX the check out all the youtube videos to get a perspective on the sport.
Bike wise I'd go for something like a Kinesis Crosslight, or Ridley, you only need an aluminium frame but I would recommend carbon forks and michelin mud 2 tyres.
For Cyclocross you really just need to be fit and the technical side of things will slowly come, I'd suggest during the spring summer to maybe try MTB racing as thats off road whilst there no cross on, really you need good Aerobic fitness which you will definitely get by road races such as Crystal Palace or the evening Surrey League handicap races.
Alex if you want to go out training I'll take you out on some local trails just let me know.
