Powerbreathe gadgets

I know all this training business makes us sound a bit serious but, well, some people really are into this bike lark so feel free to talk about all training & self improvement related topics in here

Powerbreathe gadgets

Anyone tried these and got any feedback?
Theory sounds good, but just wondering why they don't get talked about more. At 30 quid its a pretty cheap training aid if it works.
Asthmatics need not reply!!!

Jim

Scott, who used to work at Pearsons, did a thesis on the powerbreathe for his sports science degree. He told me they are near to useless, but that his only his opinion.

That doesn't really surprise me.
If they were good, then I'd have thought everyone would use them.

Ive got one somebody gave me which you are welcome to try.

I'm not convinced either. As far as I know, your lungs are not a limiter. If they were, I couldnt see how epo and blood doping would work.

Others think differently, here's one views :-

The Powerbreathe can be compared to a leg press so won't help with endurance. Try to use it for long periods and you will run into problems with hyperventilation. I was told most of the research done in the above article was carried out with the Spirotiger as it is still the only equipment where you can breath for 150 mins to the limit without a problem of hyperventilation and/or CO2 problems.

i actually have one, and have used it. pretty pointless tbh. but it cost me a fiver off ebay, so i didnt really mind that much. some say though it gives you the placebo effect. further research really should be done. but apparently like the whole england rugby squad use it, make of that what you will.

I bought one a while ago, tried it a few times then decided that apart from doing Darth Vader impressions it was useless.

Well I borrowed one from Rob C (why didn't he need it if it was that good?) and gave it a go.

WHAT A LOAD OF RUBBISH!!!!!

I'm sure even the people at Powerbreathe don't believe it works.

All it did was make my cheeks hurt from all the sucking!!!

Now I have heard that if you go to bed with a slice of potato up yer bum you can absorb carbs while you sleep - sounds a lot more plausible to me.

Let me know when you're trying this one Jim and I'll send a photographer round. We're always looking for features on new training ideas :D

No need for an expensive photographer, Jim has an enormous portfolio of bum art that I'm sure he'd loved to see published...
