Team Addiscombe

I know all this training business makes us sound a bit serious but, well, some people really are into this bike lark so feel free to talk about all training & self improvement related topics in here

ive only just read this thread all the way through...and with the benefit of hindsight from todays ride.

it was great to do a new route, and was good training.

i like getting a solid 2 hours in before having a break.

i would be up for these again, and paul there is plenty of opportunity to go hard in the rides, about 40 minutes whilst doing the last couple of laps, and then on the way home. also dave and adams riding isn't exactly slow!

Dave and Adam must have done a fair few miles today as I saw them going up Box Hill at about 2.30pm this afternoon after I had demolished some very healthy food at the Smith and Western. :D

Cheers

154km to be precise. I was well and truly fooked by that point, we weren't riding much slower after the official training ride either.

The training ride was good stuff, nice and disciplined, opportunity for all to go as hard as they liked.

A few notes on the last lap 'race':

Hal: After your first attack, you sat 2nd wheel to Dave or George (I can't remember which) for a long time, not giving yourself a chance to recover. In a road race, or even at Palace, it is better to drift back down the bunch a bit to recover, especially when the back is only sixth lengths away. You'd probably have made it to the finish otherwise, you were riding well the rest of the time.

George: I'm sure you know a road race isn't a TT. So winding it up from the front is never going to work, unless you working for a team mate.

Keith: Constantly looking over your shoulder at me for the last 3km made it so bleeding obvious you were going to attack, all I had to do was bide my time and follow. I was disappointed I couldn't drop you before the finish though :P My only aim today was to see if I could get to the line solo, I failed. Well done for riding smart and taking the plaudits.

Overall, a good ride by all. This group would do well to be cultivated, if ACC want's to be a force in road racing this year, training together like this on a fixed course is ideal. That way you can all work out eachothers strengths and weaknesses more accurately, and plan how to exploit them in races. Using a fixed course means everyone knows where they're going (except me going straight on!), and it means everyone can use the course to their adavntage. In the process learning much about how to race, but without being in the heat of the moment of the real deal.

Good luck next weekend everyone, take it easy on the Saturday.

The amount of times youve been out recently, any route must be new. Id be surprised if you could remember the TG route.

Couldnt agree more. I know a course that covers various terain which goes through Rusper and then onto Charlwood.

With the riders in the group, Im sure it was a good ride as they were all TG level riders. If there were weaker riders in the group which I thought was the intention, I think they would either struggle over that distance or the group would have to go too slow.

I had my 2 drinks bottles ready to do the ride but there were some riders who wanted to do the usual TG so joined them.

Sounds like both groups enjoyed themselves which is what its all about.

 Got a stiff neck from looking around so much. You we're lurking behind me for ages and my concern wasn't when I was going to attack but making sure I didn't miss your wheel when you made your attack.

Tricky to remember those left-left-left-left directions of a race circuit.

Likewise Adam. I'll certainly be taking it easy on Saturday - 1st day of snowboarding holiday in the French Alps. Can't wait.

I'd also suggest having more than one course for these sessions - so you're not always playing into the hands of those riders stronger on that particular type of circuit. There's a lot of SL courses within reach which would be ideal to mix it up a bit

I thought the plan was to use it as course recce's of SL circuits too? The Bletchingley one would be good to go to ahead of the ACC race if you get the time as there are bound to be attacks and field shredding on those hills, useful to make a few mental markers. There's a toad road sign on the left at the brow of the first hill for example which has proved a useful marker when I've TT-ed round it.
