Chain Gang 25/3 - Junior friendly

I know all this training business makes us sound a bit serious but, well, some people really are into this bike lark so feel free to talk about all training & self improvement related topics in here

[quote="Antloony"]Yep he's 15.

When you say more restricted gears I presume you mean at the rear? All I know is that they check his bike after every race he's in to determine his highest gear ratio so it complies with the rules.

It's the gear size in inches Ant. So if Jack has a 53 big ring, he's gonna need a big cassette to comply with the regs. The youths on my team all use compacts, I think, so a 50. Meaning a more normal cassette can be used, but even then, you still need a cassette starting from something like a 15/16. The gear restricitions will be on the BC website.

His bike will be checked at every race, at the start. If it isn't, and someone crys foul play, which I have heard happen a few times, he'll just get disqualified retrospectively. Not good. This is why I think that youths and and to a certain extent juniors should be on their restricted gears all the time, so they know how to ride them. For example I've just got back from a threshold session, where half the set was to be done in the 39x16, f*** me it was hard to spin fast enough to keep the olf HR going.

Sorry about tonight guys. I was toast by the time we got to Horley. I just felt it was not going well :( . I did not even have the strength to get over to Ant and say I was dropping off.

Now some excuses:
Did a chaingang yesterday, poor pre ride meal (Pizza) and the major factor is that on the 2 occasions I found myself behind paul H, I look down to find I am doing 340 watts just to hold his wheel. By the time I come through for my turn there is no more left in the tank as dont make much more than that at full tilt anyway :oops:

So there we have it.
Thanks anyhow it was still good to get out.

Looking forward to a few days off.

See you next week.

Cheers for the info Adam. Now I know why the wheel Jacks bike backwards between two white lines marked on the floor. I've been in touch with Huw so hopefully Jack will get some proper guidance if he turns out to be any good.

Serge, glad you got back ok, I did hear you shout something but I thought you were just telling me to fill the gap so you could sit on the back. It got harder after you'd dropped off. The run back down the DC back towards CSS was pretty quick, Rob got dropped as well. Glad I went tonight, was in two minds whether to bother. Luckily the wind died down though to make it a quick run out there and back.
