Race specific training on the CR?

I know all this training business makes us sound a bit serious but, well, some people really are into this bike lark so feel free to talk about all training & self improvement related topics in here

Race specific training on the CR?

Postby Paul on the Pearson » Wed May 06, 2009 2:34 pm

Would any one be up for some race type training incorperated into the club run? Not exactly sure what it could entail. Any suggestions? Maybe a few laps race style around the circuit by the Indian resturant on one side and the pub on the other, not sure of the roads name, or other local circuits, instead of the usual dual carriage way through and off? It could even be run as a handicap which would give newbies to this race lark, like myself, the benefit of the more experienced racers wisdom and advice. There seems more people racing now in the club than before so it seems a good time to do something, obviously wouldnt be every week......What do you think?

Nice idea Paul. If it gets the green flag like the training B ride are you gonna show up?

Paul, if no one is up for it , a simple one, I used to do, is to join the 19s or whatever, then after a while drop off the back, wait a bit and then try to catch them again. This way you don't risk splitting up the group if you shot off the front. You can pretend you're jumping to a break away!

But please let the VC "leading" the group know what you are up to, otherwise we may think that you have a problem and wait for you leading to all sorts of chaos and bad feelings.

We tried this sort of thing a little while ago - take a look at Team Addiscombe. It was good fun.

Last time the participants were mainly the usual suspects from the Training Group, plus a couple of other worthy additions. There wasn't much take-up from prospective racers.

Most racers are racing now, so its maybe better to get prospective racers doing this now. Am happy to do this in the off season though.

Cheers
