Recent LBP test

I know all this training business makes us sound a bit serious but, well, some people really are into this bike lark so feel free to talk about all training & self improvement related topics in here

Recent LBP test

Postby Robh » Thu May 07, 2009 10:09 am

Carried out my 24th LBP test yesterday.

The person I tested yeterday got back into training after a period of very little riding due to illnesses spread over 4 months.

Weight on 10th Feb 09 161lbs now 148.8lbs .

He uses Cycling Peaks Software and on 10th Feb 09 his CTL (Chronic Training load) was 22 and after 12 weeks of training 3/4 sessions per week @ HR 135 (2 to 5hrs rides) plus 1/2 sessions per week @ HR 155 (90mins max rides) it was now @ 74.7. Total hours on bike per week 12hrs avg.

Here's a image of his CTL graph :-

On 2/4/08 an unplanned hour test was carried as he was feeling good on the day when he was 10mins into his HR 155 session so decided to ride by PE for the rest of the session to see what he could average over the hour. Image attached showing powertap data and polar Hr data :-

Can't think of anyone else but Stu who was ill for so long.

Oh, apart from me, but I'm still in the middle of mine.

Also Marky Mark was off the bike for a while, but that was injury.

Who in ACC would be Hong Kong Phooey? I take it that's a clue :?:

Think a bit harder Michelle, it's a non training group member.

You have ridden with this person a few times in the 15's and Just 4 fun group.

Hi Rob,
Are looking for a 25th person to test?

I'd like to put my name down if possible for some bench marking.

I will PM you my details and cost.

Just to warn you my stock on lactate strips is down and the last few strips is being used on one of my regulars in a weeks time. Will need to to re-order.

[quote="marco"]Congratulations! I'm guessing this was one of the more fiddly tests you've had to carry out!

It was Marco seeing as I was the one being tested by Alan.

My friend Alan who I've tested on 2 occasions kindly agreed to test me. He has had a tiny experience in taking lactate samples when we tested Marky Mark in October but back then I was next to him guiding him.

For my own test he was having to have to take the samples and record everything on his own. To help him out I shouted out the figures for watts, HR & HRV and remind him of interval times whilst he took all the other figures.

Taking the Spo2 measurement which can be tricky went reasonably well except for one moment when the reading was @ 56% which is wrong so I had to remind him to take it again which made the 3min interval over run by 30secs.

Everything was going fine up to 320 watts and I was @ a percieved effort of 7 and I told Alan for the 340 watts interval to start preparing the lactate strips and needle. The 340W interval was just one step too far and I was just about holding 333 watts for the first 1 minute then power gradually started to drop and I could feel my neuromuscualr co-ordination starting to go out of the window. During this time I was still helping out Alan with figures then the unthinkable happened he was having trouble getting blood and couldn't get a reading so a strip was wasted, another strip had to be reloaded. He eventually got a sample with me helping but I could feel he sliglty touched my finger as he took the drop. Hopefully fingers crossed he would get a reading and he did. Usually when I test people they are only at this point for 4 mins suffering I was there for close to 6mins.

Now the sample was taken I could drop my HR to 150 and start to recover and regain composure.

The next sample Alan took was too long and seeing the 2nd part of the test is crucial in time keeping to catch the trend of lactate dropping I decided to take the remaining lactate samples myself which isn't easy whilst trying to hold a steady HR at the same time. I did need Alan to help me by loading the lactate monitor and cleaning my finger.

I can't be really upset with Alan because he did me a favour and he's not really done this before but we got there in the end.
