Downing's week in training...

I know all this training business makes us sound a bit serious but, well, some people really are into this bike lark so feel free to talk about all training & self improvement related topics in here

[quote="Michelle"]Was it 6 hours in the hill and THEN the chain gang? That guy is nuts.

If "the hill" is his local pub, then I agree. A chaingang after a session like that is nuts.

Still ripped our legs off in the chain gang. Last Saturday, coz there was no premier race on, there was Russ, Dean, Briggsy,Malc Elliott and Kev Dawson. We dropped Deano ;-) ...puncture, but a win's a win, eh? ;p Weds eve at 6:15, Sat at 1pm. Or Tues/Fri daytime chaingang if you don't have other daytime distractions. Any of u guys want to come up for one? If there's another w/e without a big race, odds on that they'll all be out. Let me or Btn Jane know if you fancy it

Im up for it. Where do you meet? Who else wants to come? I suspect us southern softies might get an extra special pasting though.

I thought ACC was unique in doing these [quote]inpenetrable, incredibly stupid, aerobic destroying
rides. Has nobody told this lot how to train properly.

Club run meets about 100 metres from my front door in a place called Wickersley which is up in Rotherham. Best to make a weekend of it, maybe combine it with a bit of Peak District MTB too? :-)

So break it down Steve. How does it work? steady initially or flat out from the start. How long do you ride for and how hilly is the route?

74km, 530m ascent/descent. Starts pretty easy, mass start for those who've gone to the car park, sociable pace, rotating evey 5 mins or so. At the start, if a really sunny day, maybe 25 riders. Over the first 15km probably pick up another 30-40 riders. At 26km, hammer goes down. Start going through and off if you can keep pace, if not sit on the back. About 1km later, option to turn right and take a shortcut, which 20 or so riders do. For those carrying on, dep on who's out and numbers, might split into 2 groups. Front group can really wind up to the point where there are just 3 or 4 going thru' and off, everyone else line out behind. Can sometimes be ultrasmooth thru and off with maybe 20 riders working. The odd break. If windy, can end up across the road... At 54km, sprint for the sign. The eases up and rides on to the cafe at 57km. Finally, sets of and rides at sociable pace to finish at 74km.

Have tracklogged the route if anyone knows how to post it or post a .pdf of it....

You know you want to do it.... ;-)
