When do you measure your resting HR?

I know all this training business makes us sound a bit serious but, well, some people really are into this bike lark so feel free to talk about all training & self improvement related topics in here

When do you measure your resting HR?

Postby Alex S » Mon Jul 20, 2009 1:28 pm

I have been counting my pulse but my resting HR seems to be different all the time. when i first wake up my HR is about 48-50 but when im just sitting in the office daydreaming my HR is more like 65-70, even when I'm not physically active or thinking particularly hard. If I close my eyes and pretend to meditate my HR drops a little, seems like a lot of variables to give anything half way precise.

So my question is...

When you say "oh my resting HR is xx", under what conditions do you measure it?

Do you rig up a polar HR monitor while you sleep?

just curious.

Not just in the morning - literally it should be the first thing you do before you even roll over in bed on awakening. This is the only way you can guarantee you take the pulse in a similar state of rest each time you do it

So either have a stopwatch/clock to hand or better still go to bed with your HRM strap/watch on.

That won't work if you've just woken from a bad dream.
