Rollers are a death-trap.....
In prep for tomorrow’s divisional champs race, Huw had me doing a few 10second sprints. Not outside in the lovely spring weather. NO... on the rollers! Something to do with short, high cadence spinning being good the day before a race.
After a warm up of easy spinning for 10mins, then 5mins upping my heart rate and then another 5 mins upping it again, I’m told to do 6 x 10second MAX intervals in the biggest gear. Have you tried doing MAX intervals on rollers? After about 3 seconds the bike has a mind of its owns and is flying from underneath me. AGHHHHHHHhhhhhgggggHH!!! I scream.
The Cats are startled and flee in all directions. Remember that these cats have seen Huw turn him self inside-out on the rollers far too often and are used to such things, so for them to be as shocked as this it must have been good.
I’m on the floor with the bike on top of me and I’m still clipped into the pedals, Surely this isn’t the best race preparation? I grab my phone like an old lady grabbing her ‘fall alarm’... Huw Laughs down the phone at me saying “that’s exactly what’s meant to happen†(not the falling over bit, but trying to produce big power very quickly while staying in control of the bike’. Something I obviously need more practise of.
