New Toy

I know all this training business makes us sound a bit serious but, well, some people really are into this bike lark so feel free to talk about all training & self improvement related topics in here

You'll be absolutely wrecked if you're trying to go that far on them first time out  . No cheating and locking the clutch  .

Well I've made it in ok. It's tricky to hold a constant gear/ cadence you just seem to push harder and harder and keep notching up the gears.
Big build up of lactic acid all the time so you have to breath heavy to compensate.
It's easier going uphills than on slight descents and flats.
Hard to start from lights from dead stop. Best to hold onto street furniture.
Back home on them tonight then a long commute to brooklands on them tomorrow, I hope I can make it that far!

I got them for £300 off eBay

And no I can't cheat cos this is the model with no lockout!!

They are a replacement set of cranks for your bike (you'd want them on a spare bike though) which have an inbuilt clutch so that each crank works independently of the other. i.e. if you push down on the right pedal it won't make the left one come up. There are different models and some (which Paul H has) have a lock out so that you can lock the clutch and use them as normal cranks.

A couple of link below which will explain them better, but in short a training aid to help you pedal properly and smoothly and put out a more even power delivery through the whole pedal stroke.

50 miles so far.
Boy oh boy my legs are screaming.
It's like 10 mile time trialling to work and back ever day.
Getting some real funny looks, especially when I overtake another cyclist whilst dolphning.
