CR Thread

On road, off road, round in a big circle or down to the coast, we do the lot. We don't just do it at all speeds and for all levels, we do it Agreeably as well!

Only 3 on the TG today...Sylv, Mo, and me. As Sylv had a race on Sunday we decided to take it steady...me and Sylv were sharing the work load at the front while Mo decided to hang on the back. The steady ride turned in to a steady fast ride, but remained smooth. Enjoyed that...thanks guys.

Where is the rest of the TG...is it the hibernation period?

Good ride for me today with the 19's. Legs felt really good today, so glad I'm coming into form just as the seasons just finished

Sorry if I caused anyone any pain :D

It would seem that Strava is the place to record the CR recently so its nice to see there are those who still use the forum to report their ride.

Today I awoke late so having got to CS late rode with Tim, Amy and PtP. Three VCs lead the 16s, although Tim's new bike which is just slightly heavier than my car seemed to have him sweating and panting.

Good steady ride to the Pine followed by brisk ride via box. One puncture and Tom's broken chain fixed on the ascent was followed by a good pace back to Coulsdon.

Will be up earlier next week.

Didn't have enough time for the club run today so just popped out for a short spin. On the outskirts of Downe I met the biggest deer I've ever seen. This one was massive with huge antlers and just standing in the middle of the road. I had to stop and it just stood there looking at me. This resulted in the bizarre sight of me standing astride my bike waving my arms about and shouting boo. Nothing, don't hire me out as a deer shooer. After a little while a car came along but it still took a couple of blasts on the horn before it casually turned and walked off through the trees.

That reminds me - there was a deer's head on the road, wasn't there, I mean, literally, just the head :o

I had planned to try the slow 18s but there were so many and I was so slow getting my gloves back on (you know, when you've got mitts on over the top and being slightly damp was a bit of a struggle). Probably a good thing as I felt a bit slow at times on the ride down with the late running Marcus.

No antlers on this deer.

My first time out on a bike in what feels like forever, slow recovery from a dodgy knee. Four brave adventurers took to the trails:

Marky Toblerone
Andy Blow Out
Jeff Flappy Shoes
Doug Bringing up the Rear

We experienced much hilarity slipping about on the tree roots of Farthing Downs and sloshing through major puddleage. We had to drop into Caterham on the Hill to restock on inner tubes and we couldn't resist stopping at The Queen's Head for some well deserved beer and crisps. I headed for home and an altercation with a nice man driving a number 60 bus, the rest headed back for the hills and were never seen again. Click the link to see how far we didn't go and how fast we didn't go and much more besides.

Ok justifiably prompted Marcus.

My first ride in nearly 2 weeks and with slight fuzziness of the head that may have accounted for oddly higher than usual number palpitations in my chest. I opted for 19s but they mercifully split into Lions and and Pussycats; I'm not proud, nor unrealistic. That said, it was a fairly even and at times sedate pace - but probably right for the conditions and time of year. The group had a surfeit of vice captains and one ex Captain but mainly obedient soldiers so all went well. There were good turns done by all and we more or less stayed in a marching order except towards Lambs Green I increased my pace and swished through a puddle with few willing to follow in my wake. In consequence I stayed ahead 'til the fabled hamlet of Charlwood not certain if t'others were chasing or only following.

On the return leg via the Hill of Box I stretched my legs beyond Partridge and into the village of Newdigate where again no followers were to be seen. These "maverick" tendencies were later commented by King Monty tho' notwithstanding I arrived at the summit unencumbered by my sweating companions. Following a brief ebbing of waters we returned to sup hot beverages at the Roman house in the township of Coulsdon known in older days as the waypoint of Smitham. All was well.

Nice ride out with the 16/ish. Some new people whose names I didn't ask (sorry, very rude of me). With Amy and Tim (and Marcus) on board we managed to keep a fairly tight group most of the way to Charlwood - which was nice. Autumnal colours on the trees but without too much in the way of leaves on the roads.

Back via Box. At least one of the new ladies very pleased with herself for "doing 40 miles and then Box Hill". Which is good stuff. Tom's chain broke early on the Box climb (power!). We (me and Marcus) patched it pretty quickly, then Tom had to ride to the bottom to start the Strava segment again (and he did PB).

Next week I should be back up to a "proper" speed group which may be something of a shock to the system. Tom is racing on Sunday at Cyclopark so doesn't want to do the CR as well.

I currently lack the fitness for even the Disagreeables Lite, let alone the full fat. So instead, Andy F and I headed out to do a loop from Oaks Park out Banstead way, across Epsom Downs and back via Banstead Woods.

It was a lovely morning to be out enjoying the woodland trails, beautiful scenery, great company. Hope everyone enjoyed their rides today.

A nice steady TG again today, doing a lap of the Rusper circuit to add some miles. It's my intention to add one or two of the race circuits on to the TG ride each week; there's plenty to choose from that join onto the regular route: Rusper, Newdigate, Henfold Hill, Norwood Hill. The only downside is that you're not at the front of the queue at the cafe.

We took a diversion on to Hillybarn Road and Prestwood Lane to avoid the flooding on Ifield Wood. Jim said "I think this is a new road for me." Now that's something you don't often hear on an Addiscombe Club Run.

Actually you do hear it a lot, on the Disagreeable rides, though it's often preceded by some colourful language. The steeper the climb, the brighter the colours, if you get my drift

Strangely only about 30 out on this morning's CR. I guess there's been soooo many nice riding days over the Christmas break that people have had their fill of cycling? Managed to miss any rain today, the only shower was when we were in the Cafe. :D

Had a good hard ride today with Ghaleb and Ilija (and Matt who we lost before Rusper, we waited but then assumed he'd turned off the short way). Today it really felt like whatever direction we were riding, a strong headwind was following us (quite possible having looked at the forecast). Nevertheless we clocked a good time to Charlwood (just 2 min short of Rich's timed record of last summer), then headed straight for Box Hill. We all looked like miners by then. I felt like one too in the last miles, was properly spent. Weather was not as bad as it had looked first thing out of the window this morning.

Don't know if this will work, but if it does on the following link you can see the various strava people moving on today's CR - see them all converge to CSS, set off in different groups, stop at the café for some, top of Box for a discounted Heston mince pie for me, and again at Coulsdon Waitrose to buy more mince pies for Ghaleb and Ilija:
