some thoughts for tonights committee meeting

I've been thinking about the future of Addiscombe and it looks good from where I'm sitting.
What we need to think about now is how to make us more of a professional, organised club/ team of people.
We have officials voted in at the AGM, such as vice captains, but I've never seen a definition or what is required of a VC. As such they are regular club members who ride on the club run a fair bit and do a good job of keeping groups tidy and safe and have a title of VC. How about we make them that little bit more important and give them first aid training? it doesnt cost much to kit out 7 people with basic first aid kits for carrying with them on the club runs. A simple kit would include a space blanket, mouth to mouth recovery mask, sterile wipe, basic bandage and plasters. I recon the kit would be not much bigger than a spare tube. (It can't be too much longer before we get some newbie keel over with a heart attack when they see the size of the club run groups)

at the same time we need to provide education and coaching for club members, especially so for those who want to compete in the future. I am just one person, I cant cater for everyone in my coaching duties and really want people to have a think about whether they have what it takes to become a coach. The club needs 3 or 4 more coaches at its current size, each looking after at least one discipline. the more coaches there is, the easier it becomes for each individual coach.

with more coaches in place I will be much happier when the influx of juniors increases. Which is my final point. We have several juniors/youths in the club or wanting to join. This is brilliant news as its really what the club needs to become a club for all people. What we need is a plan for attracting more youngsters. Be it talking to council/schools/colleges etc.
So Im looking for ideas on how we target our club towards catering for kids.... I mean juniors.. youths etc. We need to decide what is our bottom line, age limit for riding on the club run without a parent etc.

Im looking for ideas and feedback, so fire away and give us something to talk about tonight at the meeting.

Jayne, I think that this is a good idea. The recent incident with Monty and Paul Brown might have been a lot more difficult if there was not a qualified nurse there. I'm not saying that we go that far but I'm sure that something is better than nothing. I know in this time of litigation we have to be careful but if somebody has stopped breathing.....

Some debate is needed to iron out all the issues though e.g. how far do we go, VC's are not always on club runs, are all the VC's happy to take this on etc.

Perhaps we can talk at the next meeting as I missed this one
