Team Addiscombe

I know all this training business makes us sound a bit serious but, well, some people really are into this bike lark so feel free to talk about all training & self improvement related topics in here

I think if George & Paul are worried about not getting sufficient work-out they should be forced to ride their commuting / clunker bikes, better still MTBs ; - )

Training bikes are for training, racing bikes are for racing! The clue is in the name. If you haven't got a training bike - then maybe that says something about your training..........!

blimming ell can't anybody say anything on here without someone from the skys above knocking them

Markus for you information I've been training on my proper old banger steel training bike all winter long every day and every training ride, I'm now super strong thanks to that.

I'm riding my road race bike tomorrow because I need to test it out before next weekends road race as I won't get a change at all next week.

I'm not worried about getting a sufficient work out as I've trained enough this week with 3 chaingangs plus 100 miles

- by the row of terraced cottages on the left on Tandridge Lane

They've been resurfacing this week. Worst bits of Tandridge lane have been sorted out.

Does NP have a forum we can post our advice on?

From your comments, you give the impression that NP just do smooth steady disciplined rides not dropping riders etc. When I did a CG with your lot last year less than half the group was left by the end and more riders were dropped that day than all year on our TG. Why didnt the faster riders use training bikes that day. What some people say is not actualy what they do. It was a great ride though.

Paul, bear in mind Marcus is about as traditional as you can get! Don't let him see you without mud guards on either!!

I'll be on my race bike, for the pure and simple reason that it is also my training bike. (for now!)

How can we improve our race performances, both as individuals, and as a club?

Opinions please.

Interesting posts, but would it not be better to break a race down into various scenarios where they have had an impact on the outcome and simulate them? Questions you can ask yourself, "Why didn't I win the race?", "Why did I miss the break?", etc. You can then work on these skills, hopefully putting you in a stronger position when they occur in actual races.

Through and off is good for strenght and when a break gets away and starts building a gap, but how many riders can say they have ridden a field off their wheel?

Don't worry George, I'll keep quiet for a while now.

Granted Paul our chaingangs drop people for sure and they're designed too although I don't think Keith is proposing a chaingang on the Saturdays. And we dont' tend to do chaingangs on the weekend either. NP don't have a forum - we tend to have quiet discussions amongst ourselves and play our cards a little closer.

As for doing what I say I would never admit to following my own advice either all the time or to the letter and although i've got a Brooks saddle there are people out there a lot more traditional than me!

Over and out. MRB

As a non racer I'm really enjoying reading all this. It sounds new, exciting and I think for you guys who are able to hack the pace, it will be great fun and I hope you learn loads and all become even better racers than you already are. I also really like the way that the guys from NP have chipped in here and in other related areas recently. It's great.

I can't wait to see the results of your new ways of thinking and working and racing.

Allez allez allez
