New Year's Eve pub ride CANCELLED

Postby Andrew G » Thu Dec 20, 2012 11:45 pm

I'll be doing my usual New Year's Eve pub ride, following the usual form.

9.30 meet at GBs
Pace is social, wait for slowest rider, regroup at the top of hills.
A social ride suitable for anyone from 16s upwards, if you want to ride faster than the social spin pace then you ride off the front, no-one gets dropped.
Ride will be about 25-30 miles depending on how hilly I make the route.
Finish up at the white bear pub, a nice country pub where you can have lunch if you want (I will), a drink, or just head straight for home. In previous years there's been a mix of everything. The pub is popular and gets busy at this time of year so will aim to be there for noon.

I'll be up for this - always good fun. Maybe we should book a table?

I did think about booking a table Amy but decided against it. If it is icy or raining then the ride won't go ahead as it's a fun social ride (not fun if it chucks it down) and wouldn't want to reserve a table at a busy time of year only to call to cancel at the last minute.

Unfortunately the weather forecast looks terrible, starting out light rain just getting heavier as the day goes on. If this stays then I'll cancel the ride as it's a nice social ride and it ain't fun if it's wet and getting wetter. I'll check the forecast again tomorrow and post a definite cancel if it is.

My suggested alternative is to use tomorrow to go to Waitrose and get some nice beer in (they do a great selection of bottled ales) and a pie. Then on NYE you can put the pie in the oven, do an hour on the turbo, then open your beer and enjoy it with your pie.

[quote="Andrew G"]go to Waitrose and get a pie.

I've been looking forward to a Pie Minister venison pie after a hard Cross race lately - superb.

At the moment though, it's more a case of chicken soup and vitamin c ..

Get well soon Sylv.

I'm going to cancel as the forecast is not improving, if we went it wouldn't be the fun ride it should be and we may end up joining Sylv on the vitamin c and chicken soup.

Yes, I was looking at the forecast and seriously thinking of wussing out. Glad I got out today all though a slow puncture that stopped me at Juniper Hall meant it was a bit shorter than intended, though a old friend went past just as I was finishing and we had lunch at Ashtead. Also good job I went out as I came across a cyclist near between Kingswood and Walton on the Hill who looked about to throw his bike into a ditch and trash it... Helped him get the chain back on and lent him my pump to get the back tyre up to a decent pressure. Then he asks "aren't you in the Addiscombe?" "Yes" "You're Amy, aren't you?" Oh God, infamy :D Anyway, Ian, hope you got back OK without any further trouble. I'll try and recognise/remember name next time I see you on the club run.

beer? turbo?? Mind you, I do need to get some shopping from Waitrose so maybe a pie will do.
